The great thing about Netflix is you get the opportunity to see films you may have never seen if it wasn’t for the streaming site. I often use the New on Netflix randomiser to find great new stuff to watch. (You can find the randomiser HERE).
One film that caught my eye was a brand new British Horror film, something that doesn’t come along very often, so I had to take a look.
‘Await Further Instructions’ is set in a leafy estate somewhere in the UK. Nick is bringing his new girlfriend Annji to meet his family for the first time to celebrate Christmas together. The problem with that is, Nick hasn’t spoken to his family for quite sometime and his family may have issues with Nick having an inter-racial relationship. After the initial awkwardness, Annji tries her best to relieve the tension, but it doesn’t go well. After spending most of their time in Nicks old bedroom, they decide that it may have been a mistake coming and they would make their way home first thing in the morning before anybody else was awake.
When morning comes, they prepare to leave, only to find the door has been blocked by a strange material. Puzzled by this and in attempt to break through, they wake the rest of the house which leads to questions of why they were leaving and if indeed, they had anything to do with the strange barrier that on further inspection has covered the whole house.
Is it aliens? Is it a terrorist attack? Have the government quarantined them because a virus has broken out? Have they been quarantined because THEY have a virus. What they do know is they aren’t going anywhere and somehow they all need to get along…..easier said than done!
For clearly a low budget horror, ‘Await Further Instructions’ is a fun little rollercoaster. With a few little scares and no obvious twists, the films keeps you guessing till the frightening if not a little confusing end. The look and feel of the film again matches a low budget production but I thought the acting was pretty good from an unknown cast. The most well-known member of the cast is David Bradley who is probably best known for playing parts in many British TV series and parts in films such as ‘Hot Fuzz’ and ‘The worlds End‘ and in this movie plays the
