Information Page:

Before the Iron Man movies, I imagine not a lot of people would have heard of Jon Favreau, but to some he was the director of the popular independent movie ‘Swingers’ and to some he was simply Monicas billionaire cage fighting boyfriend in ‘Friends’.

His latest directing gig is Chef and stars…himself as….you guest it…a Chef.

All jokes aside, this turned out to be a pretty good movie.

The storyline revolves around an acclaimed chef Carl Casper (Favreau) who when he hears a famous food blogger is tasting his food, decides to cook something special. This idea is squashed by the restaurant owner played by Dustin Hoffman who demands he makes the same food his customers have been ordering for 20 years.  He does as he’s told and is personally shamed on social media for the terrible menu he cooked. Casper doesn’t take it well and proceeds to publicly deliver a verbal tirade to this esteemed blogger which goes viral on YouTube and unsurprisingly he loses his job.

In between trying to sort his life out, learn about this new ‘Social Media thing’, deal with his son and his estranged wife Sofía Vergara his world slowly crumbles.

What unfolds is a tale of shooting for the moon and never giving up. I really enjoyed the dynamic Casper had with his son (Emjay Anthony) which goes the Hollywood route of a broken relationship to…well I’ll let you see the movie. With his loyal friend John Leguizamo helping out in the kitchen and his tech savvy son, they set of on a road trip and experience an adventure.

Chef is a great feel good movie, where you don’t have to think about a complicated storyline, you can sit back, relax and be jealous you don’t get to eat any of the awesome looking food that’s being cooked. Why haven’t Netflix invented smellovision yet? And of course there’s a couple of cameos from Robert Downey Jr and Scarlett Johansson because of course what film isn’t cool when you have some Avengers turn up, kinda.
