You’ve heard the story thousands of times in thousands of Hollywood movies. One last job and the money will set them up for a life outside of crime. ‘Don’t Breath’ is just another movie with this premise but whats makes this film different is the victim here isn’t the usual bank or jewellery store… It’s an old blind man who lives alone, just him and his money.

Rocky, Alex, and Money (yes that’s her name) are three Detroit delinquents. They make money by breaking into houses that are protected by Alex’s dads security company and selling whatever they find. Money dreams of a better life for herself and her sister and when they discover that a US Army Special Forces veteran who lives alone and has recently come into $300k due to a payout from a woman who killed his daughter in a car accident.

The trio plan their robbery with ease. Drug his guard dog, sneak into the house, find the money and get out from there without being seen, which should be easy with the only resident of the house being blind. Everything goes to plan until ‘The Blind Man’ is woken by them and comes to investigate. Without his sight, ‘The Blind Man’ wanders the house looking for whomever woke him. All they have to do is stay still and DON’T BREATH!

The film has a pretty good although a little overused concept. The addition of a blind man being robbed and him trying to defend himself and protect his home without the use of his eyes was well done.

Understandably, most of the movie is filmed in the dark. This adds to the ambience and feeling of the movie. It does a great job of helping you feel like you are in the movie. This is obviously helped that I watched it in a dark room, so you may lose this if watching with the light on!  Nobody watches horror films with the light on do they?

The acting in the movie is pretty good especially from the man with no sight who is played by Stephen Lang. The other members of the very small cast are played by relative unknowns but they carry the movie well even if they do come across a little stereotypical.

For two-thirds of the movie, the scripts holds together well, but by the third act things start getting a little… strange. With our strict ‘NO SPOILERS’ rule here at New On Netflix I won’t go into any further details, but don’t be too sympathetic to ‘The Blind Man’; not everyone is a victim.
