I’ve decided to review “It’s A Wonderful Life” not only because it’s a classic film that everyone should watch at Christmas, but also because it holds a sentimental place in my heart, a film we’d watch every Christmas with my late uncle.

Have you ever wished you weren’t born, or thought that the world would be a better place without you? George Bailey feels exactly that way one Christmas Eve when his Uncle Billy loses $8,000 of the businesses money that is intended to be paid into the bank, meaning that he will be held responsible and sent to jail when the bank examiner discovers the shortfall later that evening. However prayers from his loved ones result in Clarence, an Angel who is trying to gain his wings, being sent to earth to save him.

I was pleased see that Netflix had chosen to stream the original black and white version of the film and not the digitally remastered colour version, as it’s a slow paced film that really doesn’t work in colour. “It’s A Wonderful Life” takes you on a roller coaster of emotions during the story but without dropping you too low that it becomes a film that is too depressing to watch at Christmas.

Throughout the film Clarence shows George what life would have been like in Bedford Falls for his friends and loved ones if he’d never been born and how much he means to the town as a whole. What will happen to George? Will his Christmas end up being happy after all, and will Clarence gain his wings? You’ll have to watch to find out.

Next time you hear a bell ring, just think for a second about the Angel that has just gained their wings, because every time a bell rings an Angel gains their wings!
