Ventriloquist and comedian Jeff Dunham taped “Beside Himself” in his hometown of Dallas, TX in the American Airlines Center and, as usual, has his normal cast of characters with him. In this special we meet Walter, Bubba J, Peanut, José Jalapeño on a Stick, Achmed the Dead Terrorist, and a new friend in the line-up Larry, a high strung, chain-smoking, on-again, off-again personal adviser to the President.

If you’re a fan of Jeff Dunham you’ll recognise the format of the show, a fairly short introduction standard stand-up routine by Jeff talking about his personal life. This will cleverly set-up jokes later on in the set. It’s then that the fun really begins and let’s face it the only reason people watch Jeff Dunham, the puppets arrive. Again the puppets follow a very similar format as his other shows, one followed by another with the occasional shouting from a box. However, in Beside Himself we meet the newest puppet Larry, the presidential adviser.

Larry’s segment could easily get very political and become democrat vs republican argument, but it doesn’t and I couldn’t tell which party Jeff supports. Instead he just pokes fun at Donald Trump himself rather than his politics, which is very entertaining

Netflix and the BBFC have rated Beside Himself as a 15 but with only a couple of swears, and mild sex references, it would probably be suitable for 13 and over, but please don’t take my word for it and check it out yourself before allowing your kids to watch it.
