“Spenser Confidential” is the fifth and latest film collaboration between Mark Wahlberg and Director Peter Berg. Other films include Lone Survivor and Mile 22. “Spenser Confidential” tells the story of Spenser, a Boston Cop who after hearing how corrupt his boss is, goes over the edge and assaults him in his own home. A smart cop who clearly has issues minding his own business, spends five years in prison and as you can imagine being a cop, is not exactly Mr. Popular.

We meet him on the day of his release and after a little “Going Away Party”, he finds himself in a kind of half-way house with his old friend and boxing coach Henry and his unwelcome new room mate ‘Hawk’. In a very unfortunate event, the Captain he assaulted is murdered and of course eyes look straight to Spenser. After being defended by his old partner and friend Driscoll, his alibi is accepted and Spenser is told to get on with his life. Spenser being Spenser, he can’t let it lie and he begins to look into the Captains murder himself. This leads to him making more enemies more than friends and becomes a punching bag for many bad guys, but with every beating he seems to get a little more information. It seems Spenser can never have enough enemies but when the safety of his friends is in doubt, Spenser has to out up or shut up.

For me Mark Wahlberg will always be the guy on my cousins wall, modelling Calvin Klein’s from his ‘Marky Mark’ days. If you are too young to know what I am talking about, Google Wahlberg’s popstar past. But he has crossed over to acting and has become a big name in some big movies. Although “Spenser Confidential” is a Netflix Film, it lacks nothing a theatrical movie would have. It has some great action, some funny moments and the story is pretty good yet a little predictable. While the movie offers nothing different than most films of this type, it is definitely a film you can sit back and enjoy.

“Spenser Confidential” is based on a series of books. If by any chance you are a fan of the books, there is a chance this won’t be what you are expecting.
Although based on the books, from what I can gather the names are pretty much all that’s taken from the book series. Even so, you may still enjoy the film!
